The second capacity-building programme in Balanced and Inclusive Education (BIE) has started at the Organisation of Southern Cooperation (OSC) Institute located at the OSC Headquarters in Addis Ababa. This two-month intensive training programme aims to redefine educational paradigms across the Greater South.
Dr. Shubhangi Sharma, Under-Secretary-General for Systemic and Endogenous Educational Development (SEED), emphasised the critical importance of BIE in fostering environments characterised by fairness, inclusivity, holistic growth, and adaptable learning methodologies. “The four pillars of BIE – intraculturalism, transdisciplinarity, dialecticism, and contextuality – constitute a transformational approach to education, equipping graduates of the present OSC Institute capacity-buulding programme with the means to spearhead not only the adoption of BIE within their education systems, but also implementing the systemic governance required to enhance the transformative potential of education for youth and societies”, Dr Sharma said in her welcome remarks to the participants.
Education specialists from OSC Member States will engage in an intensive training period, acquiring in-depth knowledge and information about Balanced and Inclusive Education—a key mandate of the OSC. They will gain new perspectives and methodologies designed to catalyse systemic change within their educational frameworks. Following the training, participants will conduct systemic diagnostics of their educational systems to ensure alignment with BIE principles and identify areas for enhancement.
This training programme represents a pivotal step towards a future where collaboration and partnership drive inclusive educational settings tailored to meet the unique needs of each learner within the Greater South.
