14 June 2024 The first two-month capacity-building programme on Balanced and Inclusive Education (BIE) concluded today, with a landmark graduation ceremony, that saw 21 educators comprising of government officials and technical experts from academic institutes, OSC Member States and Associate Members, awarded certificates. The training focused on the principle of BIE.

Presiding over the graduation ceremony at the OSC headquarters in Addis Ababa, Secretary-General Sheikh Manssour Bin Mussallam praised the trainees for their determination towards the profound humanist ideals that motivate them within their respective ministries and curriculum development centres.

“As you are all aware, as experts in Balanced and Inclusive Education, it is a profoundly transformative, rather than a reformist approach to education. One which by basing itself on the four pillars of #Intraculturalism, #Transdisciplinarity, #Dialecticism, and #Contextuality recognises the importance for our education systems, to better reflect our histories, cultures, and identities as people” he said.

Dr. Shubhangi Sharma, Under-Secretary-General at OSC’s Department of Systemic and Endogenous Educational Development, who was also awarded along with other trainers for the successful training programme, said that this approach to educational transformation is both profound and systemic. The aim is for a holistic and meaningful change that integrates BIE comprehensively across educational systems.

The pioneers shared their enthusiasm for applying their new skills to create more inclusive and equitable educational environments. Ms. Loyce Alinafe Chisale from the Malawi Institute of Education expressed her commitment to integrating inclusive teaching strategies into her curriculum development work, while Mr. Chanthy He from Cambodia plans to establish a BIE Technical Team to further spread the knowledge.

The graduation ceremony marks the completion of the first of three training sessions planned for this year, as part of the OSC Institute’s flagship programme. A pivotal component of organisation’s broader mission is to enhance educational capacity in Member States, promote transdisciplinary research, and support endogenous development initiatives.
