Every 18th of May marks the Day of the Organisation of Southern Cooperation (OSC), commemorating the entry into force of its Constitutive Charter in 2021.

As part of this year’s celebrations, two public lectures will be held, with free admission, under the title “Horizons of the South: Memories, Knowledge, and Shared Futures”. These events will facilitate strategic reflections on the critical thought of the Greater South, its challenges, and the reconfiguration of possible futures.

On 16th May, 6:00 PM (Argentina time), political scientist and Pan-Africanist activist Aziz Salmone Fall will deliver a lecture in Buenos Aires at the National University of Avellaneda, titled “The Transnationalism of the Greater South as a Pillar for an Inclusive and Balanced World”. In his address, Fall will present a radical critique of traditional development concepts and propose a new global action plan, grounded in endogenous knowledge and Southern perspectives, that rejects colonial structures and promotes emancipatory and universal praxis.

Meanwhile, on 19th May, 10:00 AM (Ethiopia time) at Ashenafi Kebede Performing Arts Centre of the Yared School of Music, Addis Ababa University, Argentine philosopher Ricardo Forster will present his lecture “Utopias and Memories in the Greater South”, reflecting on the creative power of utopian traditions, the “not-yet” of collective dreams, and the active memory of Southern peoples as drivers for a shared future.

Both events are organised by the Organisation of Southern Cooperation (OSC) in collaboration with the Union of Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean (UDUALC) —an associate member of the OSC— the National University of Avellaneda (UNDAV), and Addis Ababa University (AAU). The President of UDUALC and Rector of UNDAV, Eng. Jorge Calzoni, is also the current Chair of the OSC’s Conference of Associate Members for the 2024-2025 term.
