24 June 2025 – The Organisation of Southern Cooperation (OSC) and the International Cooperation Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB) announce the opening of applications for the 2nd OSC-GCUB Scholarship Programme 2025, offering up to 400 fully funded scholarships to qualified candidates from eligible OSC Member and Founding States.

The inaugural (2024) programme attracted 9,827 applications from 27 OSC Member and Founding States. Following a rigorous selection process, 300 scholars from 17 OSC Member States were awarded placements at Brazil’s top universities, a testament to OSC’s commitment to promoting international academic mobility and South-South cooperation as a means to break down barriers and build bridges between different cultures and communities through education.

This year, the partnership expands its reach, offering up to 400 scholarships for Master’s and Doctoral programmes, from eligible OSC Member & Founding States.

In this regard, Prof Hirut Woldemariam Teketel, Under-Secretary-General for Research, Evaluation, and Foresight (REEF) at the OSC, stated, “For all those scholars and students who dream of pursuing their Master’s or Doctoral studies, I encourage you to apply. This is your opportunity to empower your future with a fully funded postgraduate scholarship offered through the collaborative initiative of OSC & GCUB.”

The programme embodies South-South cooperation for knowledge development and exchange, by equipping scholars to address both local and global challenges, directly cultivating them as strategic agents of change for Southern-led development.

Aligned with the Framework to Reinforce Exchanges between Youth and Regions through Education (FREYRE), this isn’t just a scholarship, it’s an invitation to join a network of future leaders across the Greater South.
