JOINT STATEMENT OF THE 1ST ORDINARY MEETING OF THE MINISTERIAL COMMITTEE OF THE COMMON LEVERAGING UNION OF BORROWERS (CLUB)

04 JUNE 2024, ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPA 

  1. We, the Ministerial Committee of the Common Leveraging Union of Borrowers (CLUB), having held our first ordinary meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, between 2- 4 June 2024,
  2. Having examined with appreciation the agenda items and proposals made by the Secretary-General to support the work and objectives of the CLUB,
  3. Having assessed the debt conditions of our Member States, with the view to achieve debt relief and a greater access to highly concessional financing, in order to address the legitimate concerns of the countries of the Greater South and better serve our Peoples,
  4. Having now collectively taken a number of decisions to institutionalise our processes, to further strengthen our union, and to ensure collaboration between our Members,
  5. Having received, from His Holiness Pope Francis, through His Excellency the Secretary-General, a message of good will, and expressed our appreciation to His Holiness for fortifying our moral resolve in our collective endeavours for a more equitable and fair international financial architecture,
  6. Have resolved to meet again in an extraordinary meeting later this year to determine the next priority actions in order to achieve the common objectives of Member States.
