Secretary-General-elect and Ecuadorian Minister of Education hold videoconference

14 September, 2021 – The Secretary General-elect of the Organisation of Educational Cooperation (OEC), H.E. Manssour Bin Mussallam, and the Minister of Education of Ecuador, H.E. Maria Brown Perez, held a conference call to explore and discuss cooperation in areas of common interest.

The Secretary-General-elect and the Minister of Education exchanged views on the new Ecuadorian National Educational Plan and the Organisation’s programmes which are to be proposed to the General Assembly, reiterating their shared commitment to the vision of Balanced and Inclusive Education for all.

The Minister stressed the importance of contextualization in education: “We have a very ambitious project of trying to change the way that public education works in the country. What we want is education to be closer to the community needs, not so standardized and more pertinent to the different realities that our people have.”

The Secretary-General-elect concurred by underlining the OEC’s fundamental belief « that any education that strives to not only be pertinent and effective but also to be as a catalyst for the building of the societies that we want and the future that we want, intrinsically needs to be contextualized at all levels. »

Emphasising the Organisation’s mission to support countries in achieving the implementation of the Universal Declaration of Balanced and Inclusive Education (UDBIE), the Secretary-General-elect also conveyed the OEC’s readiness to support the Ministry of Education in addressing Ecuador’s educational priorities.

In this regard, they agreed to have the technical teams of the Ministry of Education and the OEC work together in the weeks prior to the OEC General Assembly in order to operationalize a fruitful partnership.
